Where's my free credit report?
You can receive your credit report with no cost to you, no credit
cards required. The three major credit agencies have to provide
free credit reports to any and all consumers that request one. By
receiving these credit reports you can keep track of all activity
and work to improve your score over time. The better the score the
better the loan rates and interest you'll receive. Because of this
there is the Fair Credit Reporting the Act that requires that
consumers be given their free copies of their credit report. This
also means that it is never too late to improve your credit score.
So, the three major credit reporting agencies are Equifax,
Experian, and TransUnion. These are companies that hold and
control of our credit in terms of it being reported to them. They
are not supposed to be working for any credit card company and
they are supposed to be an independent business. However, they are
there only for profit and will not work in your best interest. So,
you need to always know your rights and stay on top of your credit
and credit report.
Another thing to remember is that even if you have no credit cards
or loans, you have social security number; you still need to check
your credit report. Identity theft and mistakes can still be made
even if you have never had any type of credit. Still request your
free credit report to make sure your information is right.
Watch out for companies offering services to monitor your credit
to get your free report. You do not need to pay for one of these
monthly or your services. You can get your report for free and
monitor your reports yourself. There is no need for these
companies to do this for you. Essentially this is a scam to get
you to sign up for something that is free already. Check out
http://www.annualcreditreport.com to receive your credit report
today.
Whenever possible get all three credit reports so you can compare
what each has and make corrections where necessary. Now if you
would like to know what your credit score is however, than that
does cost and you cannot get these reports for free? All three
credit agencies do offer the three in one packages. Equifax will
cost you $39.95, Experian is $34.95, and TransUnion's is $29.95.
Again, do not bother with credit alert services, there is no need
for this, they are a rip-off and they are charging you something
you can do on your own and receive for free.
Aside from receiving your credit report for free, these agencies
are a rip-off because the information has to be sent to the credit
agency first and all information has to be exactly like yours to
send you an alert. If the information varies than you will not be
alerted anyhow. These companies charge around $15 a month, $180 a
year. Versus paying around $60 to receive your credit report and
score from the credit bureau agencies. Save the money and go the
agencies that way too, you know they are legitimate companies you
are buying from.
Get your free reports and occasionally your credit score too from
the three major agencies. Checking your credit occasionally and
staying on top of what is happening is the best way to protect
yourself and your credit score.
